Introducing Captured by Faith
In preparation for the upcoming release of Captured by Faith, I’d like to offer readers a brief window into the story behind the book—and the journey that led it to print.
My name is Rick Williams, and for the past few years I’ve had the privilege of editing and walking alongside my dear brother in Christ, Dr. Misambo Pierre Asabi, as he brought his remarkable life story to the page. While I have writing projects of my own waiting patiently in the background, life had something better in mind. I found myself happily sidelined—trading personal ambitions for the far greater honor of helping tell his story.
What began as friendship grew into collaboration, and eventually into stewardship—making sure this book isn’t just a story, but the story God was writing all along. So here I am: part-time writer, full-time friend, and accidental biographer—pen, coffee, and humility in hand.
I won’t linger long on my own background. I’ve lived a full life—born to an Air Force father, serving as an Airman myself, working as a firefighter/paramedic, and eventually finding my voice as a writer. Those experiences shaped me, but they aren’t why you’re here.
You’re here because of him.
A Stitch in Time — West Darfur, 2004
Our lives first crossed paths in November of 2004, amid medical clinics in West Darfur, Sudan—two men navigating chaos and human suffering, unaware that God was quietly stitching together a friendship that would span continents, decades, and trials neither of us could yet imagine.
From surviving threats and displacement in Kenya to the long and uncertain road toward rebuilding life in the United States, I’ve had a front-row seat to Dr. Asabi’s journey. Though we don’t see each other often today, we remain deeply connected through prayer, friendship, countless conversations, and now through the telling of his story in this book: Captured by Faith.I’ve always been drawn to adventure, but nothing I’ve done—no mountain climbed, no fire fought, no road traveled—has affected me as deeply as walking beside Dr. Asabi through his life story. Watching how the Lord Jesus Christ has guided, protected, and sustained him has strengthened my own faith in ways I never expected.
Captured by Faith is not merely a memoir. It is a testimony of God’s faithfulness in the midst of suffering, perseverance, and hope against all odds.
As we approach the launch of this book, our hope—Dr. Asabi’s and mine—is both simple and sincere: that readers will be encouraged when the road feels impossible, reminded that suffering is never wasted, and reassured that no future is too broken for the redeeming grace of God.
We also hope you will help us share this story. If these words resonate with you, we invite you to spread the word—to friends and family, churches and small groups, colleagues and communities—so that when Captured by Faith is released, it may reach those who most need its message.
May this story draw you closer to Him—and may you, too, be Captured by Faith.
With
kind regards, and
endearing faith in our Savior
